1948
The Press Hall
Binara Street's original tenant prints race-day form guides for the district. The basement still carries its original jarrah floor — now beneath the wine vault.
1992
Casino Era Begins
Casino Canberra opens next door and the block becomes the city's entertainment spine. The first hotel tower rises within the decade.
2019
The Bonza Refit
A two-year restoration adds the spa floor, chef's counter and sixteen-level suite stack — designed by a Canberra-born architect who kept the facade's original cornice.

A Working Hotel, Still Improving
The penthouse floor opened last spring; the rooftop observatory deck is next. We refit one floor a year — always with guests in the building, never behind hoarding.

We bought a tired tower in a city most travellers treat as a layover, and decided the layover deserved better. Bonza Rooms exists because Canberra deserved a hotel that treats a Tuesday like an occasion — where the espresso is pulled by someone who cares, the dealer remembers your game, and the spa stays open for the guest whose flight landed late. We are not a resort pretending the city does not exist; we are a city hotel that happens to have a casino on the ground floor and a thermal pool in the sky. Every refit has asked the same question — does this make a Tuesday better? If the answer is no, it does not go in.

The Potter of Hall
Every dinner plate at the chef's counter is thrown by hand twenty minutes up the road — each one slightly different, on purpose.
The Weaver of Gundaroo
Bed throws woven from Romney Marsh wool — undyed, unhurried, and warm in the particular way only real wool manages.
The Apothecary of Kingston
Bath amenities blended with kunzea and lemon myrtle — the house scent is a recipe the perfumer refuses to sell to anyone else.
Art You Walk Past Every Morning
The corridor between the lifts and the dining room doubles as a rotating gallery — quarterly exhibitions from Canberra-region artists, free to wander before breakfast. The permanent collection hangs in the salon: 34 works acquired since 2019, catalogued in a book you can borrow from the desk.
